The Pursuit of Pretty Storage

The Pursuit of Pretty Storage

Eye clutter is literally the worst! All the different packaging and brands and labels. It is just incredible frustrating to be looking at something red and pink and blue right next to each other. Brands will never fit my aesthetic, so I needed to change something.

My open shelving is supposed to be my beautiful open pantry. (I have the smallest kitchen ever!) Open is tricky, you would have to see all that eye clutter, and I’ve definitely let it be that way since we’ve built them. BUT! It’s all finally coming together!

The major part of our shelves is that we have a drink station, including syrups and many many, (too many) sodas. I was lucky enough to pick up a picnic basket that was tall enough, so the syrups go in there. I seriously LOVE it! The sodas needed a solution. Enter, the double decker box.

DIY TUTORIAL
(well, a loose one)

MATERIALS:
At least 2 Hobby Lobby Photo Boxes
X-Acto Knife
Gorilla Glue
Sharpie, pen or pencil
Hard Edge (I used a clipboard)

Instructions:

  1. Determine what box and what lid you are going to be cutting. Make sure to keep the fronts facing the same.
  2. You will now cut the bottom of the box. about 1/4 inch away from the edge. I used a clipboard and my x-acto knife to get a straight edge.
  3. Cut the bottom away from the box.
  4. After the bottom of the box is cut, set it on top of the lid and trace around with a sharpie.
  5. Now to cut the lid. Take your hard edge and cut around the lines that you just drew.
  6. Assemble without glue to make sure that you have everything lined up correct. Solid box (not cut). Lid that’s cut. Box with bottom cut. Solid Lid.
  7. Glue the cut lid to the solid box. Press and allow at least 2 minutes to dry.
  8. Add glue to the bottom of cut box. Align on with the lid. Press down and allow to dry (at least 1 hour).
  9. Fill that sucker with 16 of your favorite sodas!!

I love this storage so much!!! I ended up making one for my popcorn maker and I think it is perfect! I love the colors, I love how well they pair with my rattan picnic basket, and my vintage coke girl that low key looks like me!!
